BTA is seeking funds for major capital improvements to the Field Research Station & Learning Center in Saratoga, TX. Improvements mandated by State Fire Marshall include a dedicated Sprinker and Fire Alarm System as well as replacement of three aging HVAC systems.
BTA board of directors has approved committing over $10,000 from its contingency funds as well as soliciting almost $75,000 from various foundations. Completion of this project will allow BTA to re-open lodging for up to 24 persons. It is hoped that work can be completed by June 30, 2020.
Universities and colleges that send researchers and volunteers include institutions for all over the Nation such as: Saint Michael’s College of Vermont, Colorado State University, Texas State University, Rice University, University of Houston, Texas A&M University, Tarleton State University, Central Oklahoma University, University of Nebraska, Sam Houston University, Stephen F. Austin University, Lamar University, and Eastfield College. The Houston Zoo and the Dallas Zoo have Teen Programs that come each year. Conservation organizations and governmental agencies that have used the facility for extended stays or day use meetings and will continue are: Student Conservation Association, National Park Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy, Texas Conservation Corps, Texas Department of Transportation, Black Bear Alliance, US Geological Survey, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Gulf States Mycological Society, and National Wetlands & Aquatic Research Center.
